Scott is one of a small number of advisors to hold both the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations.

Prior to founding Good Life Wealth Management, Scott was Director of Financial Planning for Stratford Consulting, from 2012 until March 2014. Catering to high net worth individuals ($1 million minimum), Scott was responsible for research and solutions for technical questions in everything from investments and asset allocation to taxes and Social Security. During this two year period, Scott helped grow the firm from $225 million under management to $375 million.
 
From 2004 through 2011, Scott was a Financial Advisor for GS Wealth Management. During this time, Scott learned his craft and completed a Certificate in Financial Planning from Boston University. Scott received his CFP® designation in 2007. Eager to continue learning, Scott enrolled in the CFA program in 2010 and passed all three exams in consecutive years. Scott has been awarded the “Five Star Wealth Manager” in Texas Monthly three times. Scott is a member of the Financial Planning Association.
 
Scott recognized that many of his Baby Boomer clients had similar questions about retirement planning and that the five years before retirement were a crucial period for planning and addressing these questions. This lead to the creation of Scott’s book Your Last 5 Years: Making the Transition from Work to Retirement in 2008. 

Background

A native of Rochester, New York, Scott’s first passion was music. Scott attended Oberlin College where he studied trombone in the conservatory and served as a tutor for the Economics and Music Theory departments. Scott completed his graduate work at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, where he received a Master’s degree, Performer’s Certificate, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the age of 25. Scott taught music for the State University of NY at Geneseo and at Texas Christian University before embarking in a new career in personal finance.

Outside Work

An accomplished trombone player, Scott continues to perform today as Principal Trombone of the Las Colinas / Garland / Arlington Symphonies, as well as with his quintet, the Perennial Brass Ensemble. A long time advocate for animal welfare groups, Scott has been a volunteer and foster home for Operation Kindness since 2002. In his free weekends, Scott enjoys spending time with his former foster dog, Livvy.
